Rheinorange
Mitten in Duisburg steht am Ende des Ruhrtalradwegs das Rheinorange. Umgeben vom Hafen und einem Industriepanorama ist es ein einzigartiger Ausblick. 1992 wurde die 25 m hohe Skulptur „Rheinorange“ auf dem südlichen Ufer bei Rheinkilometer 780 aufgestellt.
Rhein und Ruhr. Ohne das Zusammentreffen dieser beiden Flüsse wäre Duisburg damals, vor über tausend Jahren, vermutlich erst gar nicht entstanden. Noch wichtiger wurde der Standort während der Industrialisierung des Ruhrgebiets: Der Duisburger Hafen ist zum größten Binnenhafen der Welt geworden. Kein Wunder also, dass dieser Ort von besonderer Bedeutung ist.
In the middle of Duisburg, at the end of the Ruhr Valley Cycle Path, stands the Rheinorange. Surrounded by the harbour and an industrial panorama, it is a unique view. In 1992, the 25 m high sculpture “Rheinorange” was erected on the southern bank at Rhine kilometre 780.
Rhine and Ruhr. Without the meeting of these two rivers, Duisburg would probably not have come into being at all back then, more than a thousand years ago.
The location became even more important during the industrialisation of the Ruhr region: The port of Duisburg became the largest inland port in the world. No wonder, then, that this place is of special significance.
