„Je mehr es mir gelingt, durchdachte Pläne, Ideen und Konzepte nur als Gerüst zu begreifen, sie im Moment der Performance, des aufmerksamen Arbeitens, beiseite zu lassen und mich von einem zum anderen Moment von Intuition und Begegnungen tragen zu lassen, fühle ich mich dem absichtslosen Tun nahe – einer Form des Arbeitens, die Raum lässt für noch Ungedachtes, Raum schafft für die Entfaltung von Prozessen, die unvorhersehbar entstehen, denen ich folge und die ich begleite. Ein Wissen, dass dem sich aufmerksam Bewegenden eröffnet, dass in der Begegnung Potenzial findet. Mein Radius weitet sich, dehnt sich rundum aus, findet Schnittmengen, Widerstände und Anziehungspunkte im Raum und im Tun. Gelingt es, dem Rhythmus zu folgen, die Melodie zu finden, aufzunehmen und zu entwickeln, entfaltet sich kraftvolle Stimmigkeit, die den Betrachter an- und einbezieht – absichtslos.“
“The more I succeed in understanding plans, ideas and concepts that have been well thought through as a mere framework, in putting them aside when a performance begins, when I start to work intently, and to allow intuition and chance encounter to carry me along from one moment to the next, the closer I feel to unintended actions – a form of working that allows scope for the unthought, creates scope for unfurling processes that evolve unpredictably, processes which I follow and accompany. A knowledge that opens itself up to anyone moving attentively, that finds potential in encounter. My horizons broaden, extend all around me, meet with points of intersection, resistance and centers of attraction in space and in my activities. If I succeed in following the rhythm, in finding the tune, in taking it up and developing it, a powerful coherence unfolds, one that both attracts and includes the viewer – unintentionally.”
VITA
Elke Mark arbeitet als freischaffende Künstlerin in Köln und Flensburg. Nach Abschluss des Studiums der Freien Kunst in Kassel, Madrid und Amsterdam absolvierte sie ein Postgraduiertenprogramm der Kunsthochschule für Medien in Köln und forscht seit 2010 zu Taktilem Wissen, Denken in Bewegung und Dialog-Konzepten. Elke Mark lehrt Performance Art an der Europa-Universität Flensburg.
Elke Mark works as an artist and researcher — mainly in Performance Art and textiles focusing on Tactile Knowledge, movement and dialogue. As part of the PAErsche Performance Art Network she is interested in the continually development of the OpenSession group format. She received various artist residencies and grants and has exhibitions and Solo-Performances within Europe. Elke Mark teaches Performance Art at the University of Flensburg and organizes the annual BRISE Performance Art Festival Flensburg/Aabenraa
